Connecting HOBO hifi to Unit4 ERP: how a bidirectional integration transformed the entire operation
At HOBO hifi, the entire operation, from procurement to customer delivery, runs through Unit4, their ERP system. However, Magento 2 and Unit4 did not communicate with each other. Price changes had to be updated manually, orders accumulated without automatic processing, and errors in product data led to complaints. A customer ordering a product might see a different amount than what Unit4 registered — resulting in corrected invoices, frustrated customers, and hours of manual corrections every week.
What is Unit4 ERP? Unit4 is a cloud-based ERP system widely used by medium-sized companies for finance, procurement, and order processing. For retailers using Unit4 as their operational heart, a direct connection with the webshop is essential: without synchronization, discrepancies inevitably arise between what the customer sees and what the system registers.
Younify developed a Magento 2 module that communicates via the Unit4 API for two core processes: price synchronization and order export. Price data is retrieved and updated in Magento via a scheduled cron job, including special bundle prices and customer group-specific rates. After payment confirmation, orders are automatically pushed to Unit4 as sales orders, complete with shipping method, payment method, and any discount codes.
To address bundle issues, where Unit4 records bundle components as individual products, a mapping layer was built to translate the Magento bundle structure into the correct Unit4 order lines. A built-in error logger identifies discrepancies and sends email notifications in the event of a failed synchronization, allowing the team to intervene immediately without waiting for customer complaints.
Price changes in Unit4 appear in the webshop within 15 minutes. Orders are processed in real-time without manual intervention. The internal team estimates they save at least 6 hours per week on order processing and price corrections. Customer complaints regarding price differences have virtually disappeared. The integration now forms the backbone of digital operations at HOBO hifi and serves as the foundation for further automation, such as automatically displaying current delivery times per product directly from Unit4.
